Cap City Rejoins the UWS!
January 30, 2024
Lansing, Michigan welcomes a new era in women's soccer as Cap City Athletic 1847 proudly announces its return to the United Women's Soccer (UWS) league for the 2024 season.
"We are excited to be a part of the UWS season for 2024. We feel that it is important for the young players in mid-Michigan to be able to see first-hand the type of player that they aspire to be. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to continue building that culture as we take up the reins again in UWS,” stated Team President Dan Jury.
Founded in 2014 by Eric DeLonge, Stacy DeLonge, and Dan Jury, Cap City Athletic 1847 has a strong focus on player development, character building, and fostering a lifelong passion for the beautiful game. Joining UWS represents a natural progression for the club, providing a pathway for female players to compete at a high level and further their development.
League Commissioner Joe Ferrara expressed enthusiasm about Cap City Athletic 1847 returning to UWS, saying, "We are excited to welcome back Cap City Athletic 1847 to UWS. The Lansing market has proven to be a successful area for our league and we are confident that Cap City will carry the torch in that community.”
Cap City Athletic 1847, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is deeply rooted in the community, contributing to various charitable events, including the Capital Area Down Syndrome Association (CADSA) soccer clinic, Foster Kids Holiday Gift Giving, the Cancer Awareness Month Fundraiser, and Lansing River Trail Clean-Up.
Cap City will play its matches at the East Lansing Soccer Complex. For more information on the team, visit their official website, www.capcithathletic.com, and connect with them on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
Welcome to the League
January 15, 2023
We are excited to announce that Cap City Athletic 1847 has joined the Michigan Women’s Super League as a founding member club. We feel that the WSL will provide our players with an environment that will allow them to grow as players in a way that supplements their college experience.
It is important to us that the environment we provide puts the health and safety of each of our athletes first. With the goal of helping to prepare these players for their upcoming college seasons, the proper rest and recovery periods, competition window, and minutes played are all pieces of the puzzle when deciding where to play. The WSL is a great fit for us in that regard as we come together with like-minded clubs to serve our players.
“Cap City is committed to growing the women’s game, developing players and supporting athletes who aspire to play at the highest level. They are a great addition to WSL,” said WSL commissioner Aaron Roy.
