All players should register for tryouts in their own birth year.

Cap City Athletic 1847's primary goal is to have each child playing at the competitive level appropriate to his or her ability.

Player Assessment and

Tryout Week - New Format

The Michigan State Youth Soccer Association (MSYSA) which governs most youth soccer clubs and leagues within Michigan has updated their rules governing the tryout period starting with the 2023/24 seasonal year.

In the past, tryouts were a single weekend and no offers of placement or indication of placement could be made to a player until that two day period. Additionally, in the past, the week prior to tryouts was unofficially considered an “open training week” of sorts that was not sanctioned by the MSYSA. No offers or indication of placement could be made during this time.

Under the new rules, the week prior to tryout weekend is now an open identification or assessment period sanctioned by the MSYSA. During this player ID period, clubs can evaluate players, discuss the opportunities that each player may have within the club, including placement on specific teams. However, no player can officially register with a team and therefore be bound to that team until they attend an official tryout that weekend.

So what does this mean for you and your player?

June 3rd through June 6th - Open Training/Player Assessment Period

  • Offers of placement can be made to players but no new players can officially commit. They can verbally commit but are not officially bound to that team until player registration forms are completed no earlier than June 10th.

June 8th and 9th - Official Tryout Weekend

  • Saturday, June 8th is the first date on which a player may officially register for a team for the 2024/25 seasonal year. Regardless of what a club or team tells you, you cannot be official bound to a team until this date.

Cap City coaches will begin making offers to players starting on Monday, June 3rd and continuing though Saturday, June 8th. We  fully intend to have most rosters filled during the week with some be rounded out on Saturday. Sunday, June 9th will be used as a make up day to fill any remaining spots on teams that might need a few more players.
